Expressions of Survival is part one of a three part story-telling series of events taking place at Restore Human in Vancouver's Kitsilano neighbourhood. Traditionally səl̓ilwətaɁɬ təməxʷ (Tsleil-Waututh), Skwxwú7mesh-ulh Temíx̱w (Squamish), S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō), Stz'uminus, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm territories. These events aim to unify those attending in our collective experiences of survival, in powerful reclamations of identity.
This event promises to create space for love for and from ourselves as well as for each other. We are all surviving something. In the case of sexual violence, we want to hold space for nuance and recognition of the intersections between (and throughout!) it and gender, race, sexuality, ability, neurotypicality, and so on. The community we aim to create lives in our stories.
In sharing our experiences of survival, we have the opportunity to share the ways in which we survived trauma. The conversation will be gently guided though all are welcome to share.
We will have trained counsellors and people with trauma-informed disclosure training in the space.
Water, tea, and snacks will be made available (gf & vegan options too!). The venue is accessible.
